Bob Bird started his company in the late 1990s in Conyers, Georgia. They had a blower and did some “bump ups;” meaning, that he added a few inches of insulation to what already existed in the attic. Word spread and now Bob has multiple trailers and trucks. His boys, Beau and Chris, grew up learning the trade and have recently become the new owners. Passing the “torch” to the next generation in a family business can be done. Bird Family Insulation just completed a successful business succession.
Bob intentionally prepared his company for this transition. It was a year long process. This involved letting his boys grow into positions that best fit their abilities. Beau runs the business which includes purchasing and maintaining the equipment. Chris excels with sales and estimating skills. Together, their skills make for a great, strong company. Bob enjoys his retirement, but can be found hanging out with his sons to provide them help with decisions from time to time. Today, Bird Family Insulation provides, not just bump ups, but whole attic makeovers. Sometimes old, contaminated insulation needs to be removed. With their three CoolVac insulation removal vacuums by Cool Machines, they are able to quickly vacuum up the old insulation. Recently, they purchased a CM2400 with a 20 inch airlock. Along with the internal wetting system, they are able to reduce the cellulose dust and to provide long-term stabilization for the cellulose.
Not only did Bird Family have a successful transition, they are equipped for growth. Soon, we will have a couple of Hey, Insulators!™ Podcasts with Bob and Beau. They will share their thoughts about the transition and how they were able to do that. You can find their website at https://birdinsulation.com.
