As America approaches its 250th anniversary, insulation contractors play a critical role in reducing energy waste, strengthening infrastructure, and improving home performance. Without proper insulation, buildings lose up to 30% of their energy—making insulation one of the most impactful upgrades in the country today.
When Barry Pendley founded Insulation Machines, the goal was never simply to sell insulation equipment. It was to help insulation contractors succeed.
That mission hasn’t changed.
Over the years, we’ve often joked that we were “seeing the country one insulation machine at a time.” As our business grew, something unexpected happened. The machines became only part of the story.
Today, we say we’re “seeing the country one insulator at a time.”
That simple change says everything about who we are.
The equipment may open the door, but it’s the people behind the businesses who leave a lasting impression. We’ve had the privilege of getting to know contractors in nearly every corner of the United States via the phone and sometimes in person. We’ve walked through countless shops, climbed into attics and crawl spaces, worked alongside crews in every kind of weather, and sat around dinner tables listening to stories that remind us why we love this industry.
Those relationships have become one of the greatest blessings of owning Insulation Machines.
As a family-owned business, we have always believed that relationships matter more than transactions. While Insulation Machines is owned and operated by Barry and SuzAnne, our family has been an incredible source of encouragement, ideas, creativity, and support throughout the years. They celebrate our successes, help us solve problems, and continually remind us why building a business is ultimately about serving people.
Now, we’re beginning to see the next generation take an interest as well. Watching our grandsons spend time around the shop reminds us that every family business is really about legacy—passing along values, work ethic, and a genuine desire to help others.
This spirit of family extends far beyond our own. We work with hundreds of family-owned insulation businesses across North America, Central America, and Australia. Many have parents working alongside their children, brothers working together, husbands and wives running companies, and grandchildren beginning to learn the trade. We understand those businesses because we live that life ourselves.
As we celebrate America’s 250th Anniversary, we’re also reminded of something else that makes this country special: the freedom to build.
To build a business.
To build a reputation.
To build relationships.
To build a life centered around serving others.
We’re proud that the VacTrailer® System was designed and developed right here at Insulation Machines in the United States. We’re equally proud to represent insulation equipment by Cool Machines, which is manufactured in America by skilled craftsmen who take great pride in their work. American manufacturing and American entrepreneurship continue to play an important role in the insulation industry, and we’re honored to be a small part of that story.
But more than anything, we’re proud of the contractors we serve.
Every day, insulators help make homes more comfortable, businesses more energy efficient, schools quieter, hospitals more efficient, and communities stronger. It’s work that often goes unnoticed, yet it makes a difference in the lives of countless people.
We believe those trades deserve to be celebrated.
Over the coming weeks, as part of our America250 celebration, we’ll be sharing stories about American manufacturing, skilled trades, family businesses, and the contractors who continue building this country every day.
For us, America’s 250th Anniversary isn’t just about looking back.
It’s about looking forward.
Two hundred fifty years later…
We’re still building.
And we’re grateful to be building alongside you.
