Barry’s journey started on the jobsite, much like many of the contractors he works with today. His father owned Clarkston Insulation in Clarkston, Michigan, and from the age of 11, Barry was loading the hopper and learning the trade hands-on. Before long, he was installing and blowing insulation in thousands of homes and industrial buildings, gaining experience that would later shape his business philosophy.
Barry’s background also includes education and ministry. He earned a BA from Maranatha University and an M.Div. from Detroit Baptist Theological Seminary. He served several years in full-time ministry as a youth pastor and assistant pastor, mentoring young people and families, teaching leadership, and guiding community outreach programs. This experience instilled in him integrity, communication skills, and a servant-leadership mindset that carry through to his business today.
In 1997, Barry oversaw a church building project in Rockford, Illinois, installing thermal and mechanical insulation. This project inspired him to move back to Michigan to help his father retire and support a church plant. Along the way, he developed skills in website development, creating websites for both his church and his father’s business. In 2009, he partnered with Cool Machines, building their website and helping them achieve top Google rankings.
